Spring Grooming for Dogs — Why It Matters More Than You Think

Spring grooming is one of those things that feels optional until you skip it — and then suddenly you've got a matted, itchy, overheated dog in May. A good spring grooming reset clears out winter coat, gets the skin breathing, and sets your dog up to enjoy warmer weather instead of suffering through it.

What a spring groom includes

  • Bath with a deshedding or coat-appropriate shampoo
  • Thorough deshedding and brush-out
  • Nail trim and paw pad tidy
  • Ear cleaning
  • Coat trim or shape-up as appropriate for the breed
  • Hand-drying — never crate-dried

Why timing matters

Spring grooming early in the season prevents the matting and skin issues that come from a heavy winter coat trapped against warming weather. It also gets parasites that may have hitched a ride during early walks taken care of before they spread.

Don't shave the double coats

If you have a double-coated breed, resist the urge to shave them down. That undercoat actually helps regulate temperature year-round. Professional deshedding is the right approach — we'll show you the difference.
